trends: goth night

Goth Night

Lately I’ve been experimenting with goth inspired makeup, and this has awakened a further interest and admiration for the gothic look. I’ve never held on to one single style of clothes, but I can tell you it has never been described as gothic. I now wish to mix things up further, by trying on this new style hat.

An other element to this blossoming obsession is the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo trilogy. I loved the books, the original films and I’m (not so) patiently waiting for the second film of the American trilogy. Lisbeth Salander’s character is excellent, a modern day super hero and my new idol. She shows us how despite everything one can choose to overcome the most impossible of challenges or attacks and come out swinging like a badass in every sense of the word.

Perhaps the final reason why ( you see I love to psychoanalyze myself ) I am being drawn to the dark side, is the over saturation of pre chewed, pre packaged commercial products. No I don’t consider these products ‘artists’. Don’t get my wrong I will get up and dance like a nobodies business if Barbie Girl comes on, but all these manufactured acts are less of a sugar rush and more cringe inducing. I have dealt with these one way frustrations by tuning to some old favorites from Epica to The Cure, Zola Jesus and more. This music oozes with emotion, whilst some of the top 40’s catchy as hell lyrics act are just plain sappy.

El Vampiro

The Vampier

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ Parts Silver Tequila
  • 3 Parts Bloody Mary Drink Mix
  • 6 Parts Orange Juice
  • 2 Parts Pineapple Juice
  • Dash Hot Sauce
  • Ice
  • Pinch of Salt

I don’t know if being Mexican automatically gives you a natural high tolerance or liking for Tequila, but that is the case with me. However, living in France for two years really made me appreciate actual tequila over the cheap stuff. Not all good tequila is very expensive, but most of the products one can buy in their supermarket in Europe, and the cheap stuff everywhere else is not the real deal. This is because for a product to actually be TEQUILA it has to be made surrounding the city of Tequila, Jalisco in Mexico.  The distilled beverage comes from the blue agave plant, which is best suited for the conditions of this region.

LBD x10

The LBD is a master adapter, this clothing item can take you from day to night, casual to formal. It is a the best partner in crime. I’ve worn my LBDs to every occasion under the rainbow, some have taken me to school (but not right away) to the club; others from a nice dinner, to a night out hitting the pubs. Its vacuum of color leaves room to make the dress your own, you can accessories like crazy and get away with it, since it is the ultimate black blank canvas.

Black as Night
Perhaps the LBSs best quality is its loyalty, season after season this classic may change slightly but it will never leave, it will grow along with you and be there when you need it. No matter what, it will bring out the best in you, and hide the unflattering. All in all the LBD is the best type of friend, a reliable one.

101 Problems and a B(itch) is one

Who doesn’t love Cruella de Vil, well perhaps the 101 Dalmatians she tried to turn into a coat, but who’s keeping track. Regardless of her moral compass Cruella was no doubt a total fashionista.  Does anyone else remember her fancy phone and even cooler car? She might have been evil ,but the girl did have style.
I personally do not like fur purely on an ethical level, but there is no denying it is beautiful. However nowadays thanks to the ever growing fashion market we have a wide range of products available. Stella McCarthy, the obvious choice, is a vegan designer, and her creations are to die for; without the need for any actual death.
However these are just my opinions, nothing more. But below are two very Cruella coats from the vegan designer for you to drool over.  Who knows, maybe if Stella had been around back in Cruella’s time then she might have used her style for good instead of evil.
